It’s November 7th, and today was a pretty nice day. It was sunny, got up to about 73 degrees, and I got a lot of leaves cleaned up. I think today was the 3rd leaf day, but there’ll be one more. The kids have been begging to camp out recently, and as much as I really wasn’t wanting to, I decided to go ahead and get things setup so we could.

I’m glad I did. The girls are very excited, as is Levi. Jonah will probably sit this one out, but it may be the last one he misses out on. It’s supposed to get down to around 54 tonight, which, will be chilly, but with plenty of covers and some snuggling, I’m sure we’ll be fine. Twice in the past we’ve camped out with it dropping into the 50s. The 2nd time, we were more prepared and had extra covers. I don’t think anyone got cold until coming out of the tent the following morning.

We camped out in the backyard again last night. Jackie took the kids to the Decatur zoo yesterday and we decided to top their day off with a night outside. They caught lightning bugs before finally settling into the tent. It got a little chilly overnight, but not bad at all. Even Mommy stayed out all night with us.

The camping followup is a day late, but it’s here. It went pretty well. Levi didn’t last long, maybe 30 minutes or so, and he began saying “house” wanting to go inside. Mommy came out and got him, and he was in for the night. She said he kept saying “Tent” after going in, but she keep him inside for the evening.

The girls did good. It dropped down to around 60ish which, was cool, but not quite as cold as last time. Plus, we were better prepared this time. I woke up a few times during the night and had two beautiful little girls snuggled up next to me. Lana initially went to sleep without her jammies on because she was hot, but throughout the night, I ended up putting her nightgown and a pair of sweat pants on her. Jada kept her same clothes on all night, but she was the first one to cuddle up after falling asleep.

I figured this may be the last chance this year for us to camp out in the tent with the weather really starting to cool off.  It was about 84 today, but it’s supposed to get down to around 60 tonight.  The last time we camped out it dropped down into the 50′s.  That was a little chilly, but we took more blankets out this time.

We’re going to try it with just Daddy, Lana, Jada, and Levi this time.  Last time Mommy started out with us but didn’t stay out there the whole night.

There don’t seem to be any clouds, and the moon is shining bright, so hopefully we’ll have a good time.

Clear sixty degree weather, a tent, two air mattresses, plenty of blankets, and the comfort of home about 12 feet away…Survivorman has nothing on us! :P

It’s been fairly cool here recently as summers go. The days have only been in the low 80′s, and the nights drop down to around 50. On Friday night, Jackie suggested I follow through with my long time standing promise to the girls of camping out.

It took a bit, but I finally guilted Jackie into staying out there with us. We were only in the backyard, and with the house windows open, Jonah could be heard if he cried. So, everyone but Jonah camped out.

At first, I had the whole tent unzipped, meaning, screens were the only things between us and the outside. There wasn’t much of a breeze, and Jada was even saying she was hot. Levi was the toughest by far, as he just wouldn’t go to sleep. When he finally did, the unfamiliar noises kept me awake for the longest time. About the time I started to doze, Levi began tossing and turning like crazy. I thought I heard Jonah, and woke Jackie to let her know. She said she wouldn’t be coming back out. Turned out, Jonah hadn’t cried at all, but Jackie still took advantage of the opportunity.

A few minutes later, Levi fully woke, and I took him inside to her. I went back outside, and attempted to get some sleep. This was around 3am. I dozed a little, but when waking once, noticed the girls looking cold, so I got up and zipped up the tent to retain what little warmth we had. I tried getting some more sleep before my 6am saturday basketball alarm went off.

All in all, it was fun, and honestly, while, cold, the weather was probably just about right. I think the hardest part was Levi since at 2, he’s just young enough to want to play instead of sleep if others are around. We slept on air mattresses, which, some will say is cheating, but those “some” are either under 25yrs old, or don’t camp out.
